IT'S SNOWING IN DUBAI

December 8, 2010

Hi Everyone,

We are fast approaching the end of the year again, and hasn’t it flown?! That has been the feeling for me, at least…

I know it’s been a long time since my last newsletter, but my motto is, if there is no news, there is no need to write about it.

It was a quiet year, at least up until November. I was enjoying family time, teaching local talents, getting fit, brushing up on my tap dancing and learning to cope with the new situation of being a single mum during the week and having daddy home only on weekends. (But that’s another story).

Although this more domesticated lifestyle was nice, I was itching to get back into my own music and missed the contact with other professional musicians who are extremely important to development and creativity as an artist.

Then in October, things changed. I got an email from Alison Jiear; an Australian but London based award winning performer, asking me if I would be interested in coaching the Dubai based chorus for a Christmas spectacular. After several emails and a meeting with the Director, Joseph Fowler, it was agreed I would do it. This lead to a fun and exciting month of rigorous rehearsals working together with a wonderful group of young, talented and enthusiastic singers from Dubai.

“Let it Snow” is the name of the show, and it promises to be a night of all round family entertainment offering something for all ages. Working together with both Alison and Joseph the director has been an inspirational experience. Alison’s voice will blow you away! The international musicians, who only work with the best of the best, are amazing. The show covers music from across the board including jazz, MGM Musicals, Disney and the best Christmas songs ever.

Both my daughters, Emma and Joanna, have been singing the songs over since rehearsal began. They can’t wait to see the show, especially after telling them Santa will be making a special appearance. What I didn’t tell them though YET, is if they wish hard enough, it might even SNOW in Dubai!

“Let it Snow” runs at DUCTAC.ORG until Dec 11th. For those of you based in Dubai, I encourage you to get your tickets now and let the festive season begin!

I wish you all a prosperous, joyful and satisfying final month of 2010!

Make it a good one!

HOLIDAY SEASON VOCAL TIP

Eating dairy, chocolate and sweets before you sing can reduce your range!

I know it’s the holiday season when we want to indulge a bit, but if you have a performance, presentation or vocal exam coming up you should avoid dairy, chocolate and sweets. These substances can produce mucus that will coat your throat and vocal chords reducing the full movement and vibration and possibly preventing full closure. You may feel the need to clear your throat more frequently and your voice might be breathier than normal.
