This month I'm getting into my autumn groove, renovating my music activities (again!) and getting ready for a big choir concert!
Monday, November 16th Voices in Unity Concert - Our First 10 Years! Symphony Space 2537 Broadway (at 95th Street) New York, NY 10025 NYC Tickets: $20 Time: 7:30pm http://unityofny.org/ http://www.symphonyspace.org
For the past few years I have been a member of a vibrant choir, Voices of Unity, which is based at Unity of New York, A Spiritual Center for Creative Living. As my spiritual home in NYC, Unity of NY is also home to other creative folks: writers, dancers, singers, musicians, etc, and I've happily found my niche! The Voices of Unity choir is especially unique because we perform uplifiting songs of many genres. From gospel to traditional to show tunes, Voices in Unity knows how to make a joyful noise! And to celebrate it's 10th year, Unity of New York will hold a fantastic concert featuring the choir! It will be two hours of heaven! At this moment, there are less than 100 seats left (it's a 760 seat theater!), so if you're still on the fence, get your tickets now!!!
Earlier this month I was hired to write a personalized song for a young girl's Bat Mitzvah. While I don't get these kinds of requests often, I was so pleased with the results, that I'm now adding custom songs to my repertoire. If you're interested in marking a special occasion with a song, visit Personalized Songs for more info!
I'm happy to announce that my latest eBook Twitter for Musicians is now available! After a couple years of twittering, learning more tricks, and giving workshops on the subject, I've compiled all my how-to's and success stories into a fun and easy-to-read eBook. To make Twitter for Musicians even more enticing, I'm offering it for a special introductory price of $10! To purchase, please visit Twitter for Musicians.

As our thoughts this month turn to Thanksgiving (in the US), I've been thinking a lot about my musical family tree - in other words, the music and songs that helped shaped me. While thinking of my musical teachers and mentors, this month's focus at my Rock Star Life Lessons blog is The Songs That I'm Grateful For!
For example, you would probably expect me to be influenced by other pop music singer/songwriters, but I have to acknowledge the heavy jazz influence that was encouraged by my stepfather. He had a huge record collection (yes, I'm dating myself) that included artists like Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. Or what about my older cousins who had lots of records from the 70's, such as Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, and Earth, Wind & Fire? Or when I first started performing live in my hometown of Miami, FL, I was mesmerized by Afro-Cuban artists, and bossa nova tunes. Even if you don't hear those songs in my music, I know that my current sound would not be the same today without the influence of Latin music.
If you're a musician, I highly recommend that you take a minute to list the songs that influenced you. It can be a profound and humbling experience to create your own "musical family tree."
Even if you're not a musician, think about the songs that have moved you over the years. From the first song that you ever bought (or, gulp - downloaded!), to the songs that you love to sing now in the shower. With so many love songs, political songs, and patriotic songs that have been written, songs have influenced most of us greatly, even if we sometimes take them for granted.
So if you find yourself counting blessings this month, also think about the songs that have made the biggest impact on you and your life. And if you're moved, leave a comment on my blog. I'd love to hear from you!

As the Unity of NY Choir Concert approaches, it is my pleasure to introduce to you Britt Hall. Many folks ask us if we're related (I know - the resemblance is uncanny!) but we haven't yet investigated our family trees. I consider him my brother in Spirit, so for now, that's all that matters!
As founding director of Music Ministry at Unity of New York, Britt’s work brings hundreds to their feet each week, and has received praise from around the world. In addition to being the director of the Unity New York choir, Voices In Unity, he is also the director of Spiritus vocal ensemble, and musical director for the Unity of New York house band. While at Unity of New York, Britt has produced, coordinated and directed numerous concerts and events.
Says Britt, “Although my career is what brought me to New York, the moment I arrived many years ago, it was clear that I was home. As music director at my spiritual home, Unity of New York, I am living proof that we really can create what we want in our lives. This music ministry is right in the center of my heart. I am so honored to be the leader of these amazing groups of gifted individuals. My life is truly blessed beyond words. As my favorite mystic, Meister Eckhart, pointed out in the 13th century, ëif the only prayer we ever said is Thank You, that would suffice.’ So I fervently say, Thank You, God!”
In addition to being a singer/songwriter that performs original music, I'm also available to sing popular songs, jazz standards, and cover tunes for your special occasions:
- Live and Studio Vocalist
- Classic Rock/Dance Band
- Piano Bar
- Jazz Trio
- House Concerts
- Weddings
- Funerals
- Corporate Events
- National Anthem
- Contemporary Inspirational
- Karaoke Host
