Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash Band Letter

March 19, 2008

SXSW is officially over here in Austin and things are getting back to normal. We had a great time and did 4 shows but are now looking forward to heading back out on the road and playing some dates along the East Coast and Florida.

My good buddy Wink Keziah from Charlotte, NC will open the shows. I produced his new cd "Working Songs for the Drinking Class" earlier this year and now he's out on tour with us to help promote it.

These should be some fun shows so if you are in the area please come out and see this cool double bill. Check out what the press is saying (below). We are currently adding lots of shows so please check the website and our Myspace page for updates.

See ya down the road!

Mark Stuart & the Bastard Sons

BSOJC EAST COAST TOUR

For Mark Stuart and the Bastard Sons, the last ten years has been a blur of miles and markers. BSOJC has played more shows most years than most bands do in their entire careers, and theyve done it the hard way, piling their own gear into their own van, and then heading off into a dark night thats just a couple of hours away from day. A lot of indie bands have done a lot of this, but not many have made the long haul across an entire decade. And amidst that grueling schedule, Stewart has managed to keep writing, delivering two previous records, Walk Alone and Distance Between, that built a hardcore fanbase for the band and yet achieved a critical recognition that most singer-songwriters would slit their left wrist to gain.

ROLLING STONE -- "Pure Americana heart and soul -- almost as bad ass as the black clad man for whom they're named."

BILLBOARD-- "Captures the lonesomeness of Cash, the stripped-down melodies of Nebraska-era Bruce Springsteen, the rowdiness of Steve Earle and morphs them into a captivating collection that blends twang and sophistication."

COUNTRY STANDARD TIME -- "Walks a deliberately fine line between rootsy contemporary Americana and twangy traditional country. . . with elements of twang and Tex-Mex, like a mutant blending of the Buckaroos and Los Lobos, BSOJC tear through a set of story songs written by Mark Stuart . . . as if the Blasters had been more influenced by pure country than rockabilly."

WINK KEZIAH OPENS...

Wink Keziah is an urban hillbilly. His sound nourished by moonshine, draped in kudzu and road-tested in clubs and barrooms sprawled across the country. On his second CD, Working Songs for the Drinking Class, released on the Charlotte, NC based independent Great South Records, Keziah serves up a double shot of hooch, a potent blend of country and rock that's as hot as a hill country honky tonk on a scorching summer night. Distilled through years of playing and paying his workingman dues, Keziah's Working Songs for the Drinking Class is a 10-track tour de force of pure outlaw country, with plenty of passion on tap and a frothy head of Southern soul.

NO DEPRESSION -- "On his latest release, North Carolina's Wink Keziah proves not only that he has mastered a variety of musical styles, but also that he understands everyday life in rural America."

HARP -- "His back-story reads like a collaboration between William Faulkner and Elmore Leonard, and it informs his songs with a sometimes ironic authenticity and heartfelt but not self-pitying poignancy. It would have thrown the world off kilter if he had not become the kind of outlaw country musician who makes the type of gritty music played with sweat and style heard here."
