THIS WEEK'S FEATURED ARTISTS

Babylon Mystery Orchestra
http://www.arielpublicity.net/artists/2463
Genre: Goth / Industrial, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal
DEFIANCE...It is the heart and soul of rock music. Rock music has always stood against cultural and musical elitism. But what happens when rock music itself becomes the voice of the cultural elites? What happens when rock music sells itself out to one establishments point of view, irrespective of the truth or its consequences? Would not this merit a rebellion against rock music and it's elitist practitioners? Would not those who possess the true defiant heart of rock music stand in defiance against it! So it is that Babylon Mystery Orchestra stands in defiance of rock music itself.

mrandmrsmays
http://www.arielpublicity.net/artists/2466
Genre: Rock, Indie, Pop
mrandmrsmays -- if it weren’t for the spelling you would expect to hear them on the Grand Ole Opry. Fronted by a sexy banshee brit and her husband, the Reverend, this group of Austin hipsters, might seem unlikely to deliver a spiritual punch. But hey do... like space age kung-fu fighters.

Mark Williams
http://www.arielpublicity.net/artists/2468
Genre: Rock, Indie, Alternative
Mark Williams, at a young age, is already an accomplished musician/songwriter. Hailing from the Pocono Mtns. of Eastern PA, he has played with with jazz great Phil Woods, Uber-Rocker Will Lee, guitar innovator Les Paul, and blues legend B.B. King. He has performed in concert in New York City, Los Angeles, Nashville, Honolulu, and Sarasota. In addition to singing and playing all guitars, bass, and keyboards, Mark composed all the songs on his 2006 release on Pacific St Records, RECKLESS. The Mark Williams Band recently finished writing and recording new songs for a soon to be released EP. Mark also performs as the lead guitarist for Steven Baggs.

Featured Artist Video:
"Better Things" by sOuth
http://www.arielpublicity.net/artists/2459
Genre: Rock, Alternative, Indie
South’s methodology is a continued sonic exploration of melody refracted through an eclectiv palate of disparate genres and atmospherics that blow by any and all artificial distinctions. Their sound is inspired, and their shimmering live show is unlike anything you may have experienced before. The band has established themselves as a world-class live act and in previous US tours with elbow and The Strokes, have developed a reputation as a “must see” live experience.

New Media Pioneer: Michael Yusi of UC Radio Podshow
http://www.ucradiopodshow.com/

UC Radio Podshow is a podcasting station based in Los Angeles, California. UC Radio plays the best indie and podsafe music available. Mike, the host, gives listeners an album referral once a week to help keep up on their music collections.

Q: What to you makes the perfect album for an Album Referral?

A: I pick the album referrals based on three things:

  1. Is it an album that will make people that have never heard it before stop and listen
  2. Is it an album that was an influence to other bands that followed
  3. Does it hit me emotionally and do I feel that it will have the same impact on others?

Q. What is your favorite genre to include on your site?

A: Rock primarily, although if you looked through my 5000 +/- CD/Album collection, you'd find music of all kinds from all places.  Most of my topics have a certain energy to them, so when I'm looking for music to play in the show to keep the energy levels high, and to keep the momentum going, rock seems to fit the bill more often than not.

Q:What section of your website do you enjoy updating the most?

A: The page where I list the countries the listeners are coming from (http://www.ucradiopodshow.com/shopucradio/listener-countries.html).  It always blows me away that I've got listeners in places like Albania, Tanzania, Greece, Togo and Fiji.  I never expected listeners from all over the world, but that's exactly where they are.  And really, that's the beauty of New Media distribution and producer controlled content, your audience is truly global and varies widely.

Q: You have lots of listeners from many different countries. Which country would you say gives you the most action?

A: The US, Canada and for some reason the Netherlands.  I think the Netherlands because I play so many really amazing rock bands from there, the US and Canada obviously because of the cultural and language similarities.  But South America is coming on.  I played a band from Brazil a few months ago and they put it into their newsletter that went out to 9000 people in 4 countries down there.  All of a sudden I've got listeners in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Columbia.  And there is no way my Spanish is good enough to warrant that kind of attention from South America, but yet, there they are.

Q: What would be your artist supergroup if you could create one?

A: I never know how to answer questions like this because there are so many amazing musicians out there to pull from.  If I have to, I'd put Robert Plant on lead vocals, Jackson Browne and K.D. Lang on backing vocals, Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen and Eric Clapton on guitars, Flea on bass, Billy Preston on piano, Greg Allman on keyboards, and the one and only, John Bonham on drums.
